#BetterFuture: Mobile – the remote control for life
In Rwanda, only 16% of adults have a bank account, and mobile money is often their only option when it comes to formal financial services. Digitizing payment streams could lead to increased usage of mobile money which in turn leads to financial inclusion, this session will explore where we are today and look at real case studies of how mobile money technology and digital transaction platforms continue to be a key driver of financial inclusion and financial literacy.
Speaker Bio - Vince Kadar
Vince guides the growth of Telepin, delivering an innovative software platform that enables digital transactions and payments for the telecom and financial services markets. He tackles global problems of financial inclusion through innovation in digital payments and the alignment of initiatives with organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He also works with global executives and associations such as the GSMA, the World Bank, and the IFC, driving standardization, and adoption of digital financial services and emerging payments technologies. Prior to joining Telepin, Vincent was founder and CTO of Airwide Solutions, a mobile messaging company that powered 30 percent of the global mobile messaging traffic and was subsequently acquired by Mavenir. He has pioneered many technologies and first-time service launches, including secure mobile banking and payment products with major banks and operators in the U.S. and Canada when working for Saraide. Prior to that, he worked at CrossKeys Systems Corporation, a Newbridge Networks affiliate focused on OSS/BSS telecom solutions. He started his career at Accenture in its Technology Integration Services business group, working on digital transformation projects.
Speaker Bio - Philip Amoateng
Philip Amoateng was appointed Airtel Rwanda Managing Director from February 7th 2018 when Bharti Airtel acquired Tigo Rwanda, he had been CEO for Tigo Rwanda since June 1 2016.
Philip Amoateng was previously the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Tigo Ghana from July 2014. Before that, he was CFO Tigo Rwanda for four years, from June 2010 to July 2014. His tasks as CFO included supporting the CEO in providing strategic and financial leadership to Tigo Rwanda to become a leading mobile operator in the country; he also managed financial planning, budgeting & reporting, as well as supporting CEO and Cluster Managers in strategic planning. Leading annual budgeting process and creating budget in coordination with all business/functional units.
For seven months, Philip was the Africa Project CFO for Millicom from January 2010 to July 2010 while before that he was the CFO and Acting COO of Tigo Sierra Leone from July 2007 to January 2010. Also in Tigo Sierra Leone, Philip was worked as the Revenue Assurance and Compliance Manager, the Deputy CFO and Acting CFO.
Philip has worked in the telecomm industry for over a decade and a half and has got an MBA from the University of Leicester. He is a chartered accountant and an ACCA fellow
Philip is a Ghanaian national.
